Margarita Jimeno

Banana Species (digital interventions) is a series of digital images representing variations of the intervention made to a photograph containing “all species of bananas.” In this series, Margarita Jimeno creates a contemporary version of an image that condenses past and future. The photographs visually evoke Monet’s water lily paintings but, instead of reflecting on the effects of light on painting, Jimeno’s pieces invite us to think about the history of the banana in a digital future. The plethora of images derived from that first photograph also evokes the huge diversity of banana species, even though we only consume one.
