Almost invisible at first glance, the naked body of a man emerges in the middle of a scene created using dried and green banana leaves. The man is camouflaged by the same leaves used in the image’s background, which cover the central part of his body. It is a perfectly constructed photograph. The lower part of the face, the eyebrows, the neck, and parts of his arms, hands, and legs are intervened with a series of white strokes that form geometric figures and mimic the setting. This photograph is part of a series in which Ortiz invokes horizontal relations with nature. For the artist, the mimicry of the human body with the banana leaves is a way of occupying the place of the Other; an Other that transcends the human being and includes nature. In Ellxs II, Ortiz creates a futuristic and imagined vision in which a new relationship with nature is emphasized: man is a part of it and intermingles harmoniously.
