Renowned for her still life works, Olga Dondé presents in this work—entitled De los mutantes—the image of a bulky banana that occupies almost the entire space of the paper. The representation is not naturalistic. On the contrary, it evokes the idea of a Russian doll by revealing under each layer of the fruit’s skin, a new skin, never reaching the banana’s flesh. In this lithograph, Dondé uses a highly expressive language emphasizing the diversity of patterns in the multiple peels of a single fruit. In the last visible layer of this matryoshka set, the artist accentuates the black spots of the ripened banana, and the peeled skins in the upper left create dynamism in the composition.
