From a series of diverse collective experiences experimenting and exchanging knowledge with different communities (neighbors, international artists researching similar themes, etc.), Mariángela Aponte Núñez found in sustainability practices a response to the emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic, considering how to inhabit the world by cultivating more respectful and harmonious relationships with the natural resources and the different existing ecosystems. The artist experimented with reusing organic waste to make compost, kombucha, jam and preserves, vinegar, and even paper fiber. She socialized these learnings by sharing them through workshops. One of her most original findings was the creation of a vegan “leather” made from banana peel. This tanned vegetable skin can be used as an artistic support for embroidery, for example, and for making clothes.
